Mom of a 13-year-old boy tells

Our son has always been precocious on many points, especially his motor skills, but he has also always been different.

It went fine during kindergarten, where he was given space and seen for who he was, but his school life went wrong from the start. He borrowed Illustreret Videnskab as his first library book in kindergarten class, but he was never seen or acknowledged, and his school life went the wrong way in a negative direction. He was unhappy, had trouble finding lasting friendships, often felt like an outsider, not understood, and was unhappy about going to school.

Through the school a WISC test was done, which showed that he was gifted, but we are not told that. We parents only discover it when we one day watch a program about gifted children on television - and through online searches about giftedness, we recognize our child 100 percent in the description.

Our son has visited Grith and Johnnie on different occasions, and he likes the homey atmosphere. He really invests himself if he can feel that those around him like him. He experiences that when visiting Grith and Johnnie as well as Bedste.

When he first arrived, he relaxed immediately. Grith is great at meeting the children/adolescents at their level, and that means a lot. Our boy also trusts Johnnie, whom he feels is kind, calm, and understanding of him.

Our son has participated in boy camps at Grith and Johnnie’s - that has been absolutely amazing.

When he suddenly developed severe anxiety, Johnnie took him in and immediately started therapy sessions and helped put him on the right course in short order.
