March 2023; parents of 3 gifted children talk about being helped and understood

We moved back home to Denmark after 13 years abroad, where our children were born and raised.

Our eldest son aged 10 started at a private school, but showed poor well-being from the start. On paper the school had a high focus on academics, but it was not ready to support a boy with the cognitive profile of our son. The school found our son talking about things that not even the teachers understood, and for that reason we had our son’s IQ tested. The test clearly showed giftedness.

Our son kept getting worse, and we ended up taking him out of school.

In the attempt to gather more information and change our situation we found Gifted Institute, and that was the beginning of a brand new chapter for us all.

We contacted Gifted Institute and were offered an online meeting. Even though the meeting happened remotely, we were met with a warmth and understanding which was very touching, and felt, both us as parents, but especially our children, were heard and seen.

At the institute they were met with a completely unique sense of respect and warmth - and our children could feel that immediately.

Our oldest son subsequently started a therapy program at Gifted Institute; the conversations meant a lot to our son. His self-confidence slowly started coming back, and he is much more self-assured today.

Since then, we have also had our 2 boys attend a Busy Brains course. Their own experience after Busy Brains was, that they no longer felt wrong, but that it was okay to be themselves and think the way they do. It was really a course where they felt seen and understood by the educators and in a community with their peers, which is completely unique despite it all occurring online.

Gifted Institute has been there for our family through thick and thin. We were never seen as a burden and were always met with respect and compassion, which is completely unique. It has been touching to feel, that they are always there so long as you need help and support.
